Continuing Buffalo's Jazz Legacy

From hosting the greatest bands of the swing era, to innovative be-bop at the Renaissance with Sam Noto and Don Menza, the city of Buffalo holds a significant place in the history and creation of America's original art form, jazz. Over the past 20 years or so, Mark Goldman has worked to keep this creative spirit alive by promoting local musicians and drawing in national jazz artists. Currently, Goldman houses a variety of Buffalo's top artists at his Allen Street Hardware Café, and on Sunday, January 25th, he will host the Mark Filsinger Quartet.

Captained by Buffalo-born jazz trumpet artist, the Mark Filsinger Quartet is comprised of rising jazz stars that met while studying at the prestigious Eastman School of Music. Quartet members, Chris Ziemba (piano), and Aaron Staebell (drums) also hail from the Nickel City and the group is anchored by Hartford, CT native, Ben Thomas on the bass. The group interprets jazz and American songbook standards in a refreshingly original way, while paying tribute to the integrity of the jazz tradition Together, they have performed at venues and jazz festivals throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Rochester International Jazz Festival. The Mark Filsinger Quartet, with the help of entrepreneurs like Goldman, promises to preserve and advance the great jazz legacy of Buffalo.
